background downloader?
So I had Windows Vista and lately I was getting really bad framerate issues, just out of nowhere. I dont know what caused it but i got fed up with it and decided to reformat my hard drive and boot up XP like the old days. I figured since i upgraded my computer to Vista a few months ago, XP had always worked for me and this would solve the problem with the framerate issue. Well, sure enough it didnt. My graphics card is a Radeon x800 pro and I have a 3.2 ghz processor pentium 4 with 2 gigs of ram. Clearly this is enough to run GW at a steady 50-60 fps. But when i installed all of my guild wars cd and went through the login downloads, the game is still choppy and skips from 7fps to 56fps. One thing I noticed was the background downloader at the bottom of the ping window when i hovered over the little icon in the lower right. It was downloading MB's of stuff at .1 MB per second pretty much.
My question is, are my crappy fps numbers caused by this background downloader downloading a bunch of stuff for GW or is it some other reason? Again, all my drivers are up to date and my computer is pretty much in the state of being "brand new" again because i wiped everything off my hard drive. So could someone please give me any suggestions? Im going to run GW at the login screen over night so it can finish downloading whatever it seems to want to download, but is anyone else getting this? and if so, is it slowing down your GW client? Thanks.
